Week 3 - 2009

January 28, 2009

Today I went to Stratford to pick up Sara to take her to Mitchell for her medical for school. Before we went, Bre Sara and I had coffee at Tango's in Stratford. I love doing that :) (although Lisa was missing :( )
Of course it had to be another blustery day and the roads were treacherous but we took it slow! This was taken on my way home as I followed a tractor on Hwy 83 outside Exeter. Not sure what those tractors are doing when there's 5 feet of snow in the fields! ;)

What a morning! So COLD but so beautiful! The trees and weeds were all covered in thick white ice and these photos don't give credit to the beauty of it! The sun sparkled off these icy branches and the trees looked like they had white christmas lights in them. It was incredible!

While visiting Mom and Dad today, we caught sight of this sweet little woodpecker pecking away at the suet that Mom left out for it. I'll have to zoom in on this photo and re-post so you can see how cute he is :)

Bub loves to sit over the back of the sofa and look at me at the computer desk. He is a real "poser" and I can't help but love that little face :)

Where's she go??

I'm sure you're all wondering if I fell off the face of the earth LOL....if anyone actually looks at this besides Wendy :) My computer went caput (is that the right spelling?) and so I'm working on my OLD computer that is still Windows XP....I've been trying to figure out how old this is but I'm pretty sure it's at least 7 years old. Pretty old for me as far as computers go ;)
So it's much smaller in hard drive space and my external is getting pretty full so I tried my Photoshop Portable editon but it had no way to convert RAW into jpg so now I'm going to install my BIG Photoshop so I can get my photos converted and posted. Might take tonight but hopefully I'll be up and running soon if I don't overload this poor old "baby".

I cropped this so that you could see the squirrel in the tree. (reason for the photo) This little guy was making a racket in the backyard and caught my attention so he had his picture taken! Must have stored a lot of nuts in the fall cause he's a fat one!

I went out to play with my camera today but it started to snow so only got to drive around the concession. However, it is heavily wooded so there was lots of great sites to photograph! I took 71 pics and then chose a few to "fix" in Photoshop (they needed fixing....will have to do the white balance next time)!! I had a hard time picking just one so I'm posting 6 today ;)

First two are of the re-organizing I did in the kitchen. This was before I went for my drive. Mom and I were discussing how to get my microwave off my moveable cupboard so that I could use the top of it for extra counter, which I NEED!! So I found an old cupboard door, took off the hinges and put the microwave on top....then placed it on the baker's rack. Moved things around and now I have a bit better set-up. :)

We had a large snow accumulation again last night and when I looked out this morning, all I could think of was exploring what I could take photos of. As much as I don't like snow, {more like, I don't like cold} it is soooo beautiful and entices you to look at it. So I went out with my camera and took some pics. I really like what I captured but this photo is one of the best! I love it up close because you can see the curled ends of the burrs and the seeds inside waiting for spring and furtile ground.

(Jan 18 - morning looking out my kitchen windows.....lots of snow!!!)

Today Sara and I went to St. Marys. I went to work and Sara waited for me so that I could drive her to Stratford. Before work, we parked and purchased our morning coffee from my favourite coffee shop, Coffee Culture. When Sara went to leave in the car for awhile, she realized that she didn't have the keys and we then realized that the keys were inside the locked car. Oooops!!! Lucky I have CAA, I said, and called immediately to have someone come and unlock it. Well an hour and 10 minutes later, I called back as no one had arrived or called us. I was put on hold while they contacted dispatch but was disconnected. So I called again and was put on hold and disconnected. Since that wasn't working, we just called the local auto repair and they came in 2 minutes and had the car unlocked before we knew it!! So I called CAA again to cancel my request and they apologized of course and told me to remit the bill so they could reimburse me. Needless to say I wasn't too impressed with CAA today. Good thing we weren't out in the middle of nowhere in the cold today needing CAA! I think they just might get a letter with my bill ;) My plan was to take a photo of the car being opened by the repair service but he was so quick I didn't get a chance so I will take a photo of something else and post it tomorrow for today :)

Sara helped me make a delicious dinner of chicken, vegetables and rice. She experimented with some spices and it tasted GREAT!! Doesn't she have a beautiful smile?

I'm posting 2 pics today because yesterday I wasn't able to take a photo. The top photo is my favourite coffee shop. It's in St. Marys, Ontario and across the road from where I work (I shot the photo from inside the store where I work because it was -20C. outside and too cold to stand outside to take it...brrrrrr) I'm posting it for yesterday as I went there for coffee yesterday and every day I work in St. Marys.

Today's photo is an alteration I did for a lady. She brought in a fur collar and I snipped and stitched until I had a fur head band. Yup that's not my hair, it's fur! :) And NO, I don't have arthritis in my fingers despite the fact that this photo sure looks like it. Wow, I'll have to be more careful how I pose when I take a photo!!!

Finally I got to play Wii!! It's so incredible and proved to me again that I am not a great dancer LOL But I won't give up.......I'll keep practicing until I get it! That bowling game is great though for tightening up butt and leg muscles!! Wowsers!
Today I packed up enough food and clothes for 5 days and headed to St. Marys to live in my friend/boss's house while she and her family are on vacation. This way I won't have to drive to work every day in snowy weather (if that happens this week). The house comes with benefits, like Wii! :) Sara, John and I played it today and Sara and I enjoyed it. John wasn't really impressed. I think it was because he kept losing, except for the Dance Dance Revolution.....that one he did pretty well at. Anyway, I guess we won't be getting a Wii at our house unless I buy it ;)

"Please, please don't bath me!!"

I trimmed up a bit more of Bub's hair and then decided today was bath day! Lil Bub doesn't really enjoy the bath but he does tolerate it, thank goodness! However, when we lowered him into the tub, he put all four paws out holding onto the edges like a cat! We had a hard time getting the four paws and legs into the tub! ( Got the mental picture) LOL He looks like such a little guy when he's all wet and with those BIG eyes, it's quite the sight.

As a reward, we took him for a ride over to "Grandma's" house and that made him quite happy!

All in all a GREAT day :)

Today after work, I drove to Stratford to pick up Sara and all her stuff. Sara will be "house hopping" for the rest of January until school begins in February. Here is her first stop and home for her "stuff" (above) until February. We were surprised at all she fit into the small bedroom she rented from her friend for the past months! At least we didn't have to move the bed! :)

I know I'm not supposed to do this, but on my way to work in St. Marys, I took some pics thru the windshielf as I drove! Don't worry, I was careful :) This one captured this morning, I did some adjusting to in photoshop and voila! I really like it! It was taken through a dirty windshielf on auto settings but it turned out pretty good. Winter just doesn't let up around here this year. Seems like every day almost we have a bit of blustry snow.

Lisa took this photo in St. Augustine in November when we visited Darren. It's a GREAT photo and she's a GREAT photographer! She framed this for me and gave it to me as a Christmas gift. Thanks Lisa! I hung it on the wall today and it looks fabulous! I LOVE it!

Lil Bub needed his hair cut really bad and his normal groomer had an injury and couldn't do it sooooo I took the scissors and hacked away until he was somewhat evenly cut. He looks pretty funny with his long beard and short "hacked" hair LOL

He loves to perch himself over the back of the sofa in the tv room and watch me on the computer at the desk.

We visited our friends Wendy and Roberto in London on January 3rd and they surprised us with dinner! This isn't the best photo of them but the best I got that day so I have to use it :) We enjoyed a great day of chatting and catching up. Over the past few years, we had not visited as we had when the kids were younger so now that we've re-connected, there is catching up to do. Can't wait for our next visit :)

January 2 was a lazy day at home. As you can see, Bub knows how to be lazy....that's him on the chair :) I played with the new camera but never did get anything very good other than on Auto mode. I won't give up though. I have a whole year to try to slightly master this thing :) (This is my sewing/craft area)

My best friend Wendy was dancing in her seat after midnight on January 1st. John, Bub and I travelled thru a snow storm on Dec 31 in the afternoon to spend the rest of the day and New Years Eve with Wendy and Bob and the doggies. We had a GREAT fondue dinner with a GREAT Chocolate Fountain dessert. To relax, we spread out in the living room and watched "Mama Mia", John slept for a bit and then just before midnight, John woke up and we celebrated the beginning of 2009 with a toast. All in all, a wonderful way to bring in the New Year. :)
